Artist Information

Denisa Hatches Ngala is a young emerging artist from Camel Camp, Utopia. She was taught to paint by her talented grandmother Kathleen Ngala. When she was younger, Denisa would accompany her grandmother Kathleen on her painting projects and help her mix paint and prime canvases. She closely observed her grandmother’s technique while she worked on her Bush Plum Dreaming canvases and while she listened to Kathleen’s stories of the bush plum and its importance to the local people.

Now that her grandmother no longer paints Denisa is perpetuating the story of Bush Plum Dreaming with a similar painting technique to that of her grandmother. She depicts the bush plum with large muted dots which she observes from an aerial perspective. She observes depicts the flowering and maturity of the bush plum as it ripens over her country in her paintings.

Her works have been included in exhibitions at the Prairie Hotel, Parachilna and Without Pier in Melbourne.
